Antique Art Deco Chinese Allover Floral Green 1920s Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving captures the elegance of the Art Deco period. The design eschews traditional medallion formats, favoring an open, naturalistic composition that defines the finest antique rugs of this era.
The commanding field is rendered in a deep, saturated olive green, providing a sophisticated backdrop for the delicate, meandering floral vines. This rich hue is dramatically framed by a wide border of striking coral red, a classic pairing that enhances the vibrancy of the overall composition and makes it a superb example among green color rugs.
Stylized blossoms, including peonies and cherry branches, cascade inward from the border, interspersed with whimsical butterflies and symbolic Chinese vessels placed subtly within the crimson frame. The use of negative space in the central panel allows the eye to appreciate the quality of the wool and the depth of the dye work.
Woven with luxurious, high-quality wool typical of the period, this piece exhibits a soft, luminous sheen. Its substantial dimensions qualify it as one of the most desirable room size rugs, offering a rare opportunity to incorporate a museum-quality piece of Art Deco history into a contemporary or traditional interior setting.
