Blue Rectangle 1920s Antique Wool Hand Knotted Pile Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exquisite piece captures the refined aesthetic of early 20th-century Chinese weaving, characterized by a deep, saturated indigo field. The hand-knotted wool pile provides a luxurious texture, typical of high-quality antique rugs from this period.
The dominant hue is a rich, midnight blue, providing a dramatic backdrop for the delicate, scattered floral sprays. These light blue and beige blossoms appear weightless, floating across the field in the classic Peking manner. The sophisticated use of varying shades of blue demonstrates why this color remains a perennial favorite among collectors seeking blue color rugs.
A complex border structure frames the central medallion-less field. It features a primary band of scrolling vines and stylized peonies rendered in contrasting pale blue and soft tan tones, providing a striking contrast to the darker ground. The restrained palette ensures the piece maintains an air of elegant tranquility.
This piece is ideally suited for hallways, bedside placement, or as a distinctive accent in a smaller space. Its excellent condition and durable wool construction ensure longevity, making it a valuable addition to any collection of small scatter size rugs.
