Antique Agra – Cotton Room Size Coral Rug, Circa Date: 1930s. This exceptional Indian weaving represents the refined output of the Agra workshops during the early 20th century. While many examples from this region are large and formal, this Square piece offers a softer, more transitional aesthetic, making it a desirable addition to any collection of antique rugs.
Woven entirely in cotton, which lends a unique matte texture and subtle sheen, the rug’s primary appeal lies in its sophisticated palette. The expansive field is saturated in a delicate, sun-bleached coral color, beautifully framed by a wide border rendered in a contrasting, cool powder blue. This unusual pairing creates a vibrant yet serene visual impact.
The generous dimensions and balanced Square format categorize this piece as a true room size rug, perfectly suited to anchor a primary living area or formal dining space. The scale allows the repeating, stylized floral and vine motifs to breathe, emphasizing the open nature of the composition.
The design employs a sophisticated, latticed arrangement of palmettes and stylized leaves, forming a classic allover design that flows seamlessly across the field. The craftsmanship reflects the high standards of the era, offering both durability and enduring decorative elegance that transcends fleeting trends.
