Antique Tapestry French Green 1875 Rug, Circa Date: 1875. This extraordinary textile transcends the typical definition of floor covering, presenting instead a vibrant, figurative artwork woven in the tapestry tradition. The piece captures a moment of expressive movement, standing as a rare and captivating example among our collection of antique rugs.
The palette is dominated by rich, earthy tones, featuring figures rendered in brilliant vermillion and ochre, set against a highly textured field of foliage. The inclusion of deep moss and chartreuse provides a grounding contrast, making this a compelling piece for collectors seeking green color rugs with significant artistic depth.
Unlike traditional medallion formats, the composition utilizes an expressive, almost painterly technique where the figures and the surrounding environment fill the entire frame.
