Antique American Small Square Ivory Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 66 x 74 inches (5’6″ x 6’2″). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
The composition is structured as a checkerboard grid, alternating between solid, softly quilted pink squares and white squares featuring delicate, hand-stitched floral embroidery. The primary field is set against a serene ivory color palette, which allows the vibrant accents of blue and lavender to provide necessary contrast, evoking the feel of a spring garden enclosed by a whimsical picket fence border.
The arrangement of the squares creates an effective allover design that maintains visual interest across the entire surface, ensuring the quilt reads as a cohesive, decorative statement rather than a simple geometric repetition.
Condition: Good.
