Antique American Small Square Multicolor Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 32 x 43 inches (2’8″ x 3’7″). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
The field is composed of a repeating grid of small, embroidered-style floral vignettes set against a subtly patterned dusty rose ground. These individual panels—some square, some diamond-shaped—create a dense, captivating surface, resulting in an effective allover design that minimizes negative space and maximizes visual interest.
The palette is rich yet restrained, utilizing a soft, warm ground color that allows the embroidery-like motifs to truly shine. Hues of crimson, sage, lavender, and gold are carefully balanced, contributing to a vibrant composition that classifies this piece among multicolor jewel tone textiles prized for their versatility and depth.
Condition: Good. Minor fading.
