Antique American Ivory 1920s Square Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 72 x 72 inches (6′ x 6′). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
The composition features an intricate, dense floral arrangement, characteristic of allover design, set against a pale, luminous ground. The primary palette centers on soft rose pinks and sage greens, beautifully offset by the foundational ivory beige cream white color textiles that lend the piece its airy, light-filled quality.
The vertical dark striping overlaid on the floral field adds a surprising graphic dimension, elevating the piece beyond a simple floral study.
