Antique American Coral 1920s Square Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 70 x 70 inches (5’10” x 5’10”). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
Its construction emphasizes bold color blocking and precise stitching, making it a unique example among decorative arts.
The palette is striking, centered on a vibrant, saturated coral field juxtaposed with cool shades of mint and forest green. This powerful use of color ensures the piece acts as a focal point in any room. The dominant hue is a rich, warm tone, placing it firmly within our collection of coral color textiles.
Structurally, the design is a masterclass in early 20th-century folk modernism. Concentric squares radiate outward, defined by sharp diagonal lines and sawtooth borders, creating a dynamic visual tension. The inherent structure of this square quilt relies entirely on geometric textiles principles, utilizing triangles and squares to build complex, layered motifs.
Condition: Good.
