Antique Kurdish Persian Brown 1880s Square Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional tribal weaving captures the raw, authentic spirit of late 19th-century nomadic production. Its dense wool pile and rich, saturated dyes mark it as a superb example among antique rugs of the period.
The palette is defined by a masterful use of natural dyes, emphasizing deep russets, terracotta reds, and a sophisticated range of brown earth tone color rugs. The subtle variations in shade, known as abrash, highlight the hand-spun nature of the wool and contribute to the rug’s profound visual texture and aged patina.
The field is dominated by a powerful lattice of interlocking diamonds and stylized geometric motifs, creating a mesmerizing allover pattern typical of the finest Kurdish weavings. This structure ensures visual balance and draws the eye across the entire surface of this square rug without relying on a central medallion.
Woven in a versatile square format, this piece serves as an ideal accent for a study or entryway, falling into the category of small scatter size rugs. It represents not merely a floor covering, but a durable piece of textile history, offering warmth and character to any curated interior.
