A late 18th to early 19th-century Central Asian Khotan carpet from around 1800, measuring approximately 183.0 × 335.5 cm (about 6’0″ × 11’0″). The composition is a geometric design on a persimmon-toned field framed by a light blue border. Per the original ARS catalog notes, the piece carries an allover repeat pattern of formal flower sprays, with a Chinese rainbow-wave main border and inner stripes that combine East Turkestan and Turkman vocabularies — a clear reflection of the Silk Road’s mixing of artistic influences.

Khotan is a historic oasis city on the southern Silk Road, today part of China’s Xinjiang region but historically the cultural and weaving heart of East Turkestan. Antique Khotan carpets from this period are scarce on the market.

Hand-knotted wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique.
