A 19th-century Central Asian Khotan carpet from around 1870, measuring approximately 183.0 × 396.4 cm (about 6’0″ × 13’0″). Per the original ARS catalog notes, the design is a classic Khotan composition: three dark blue disc medallions on a soft red ground, with secondary stars floating about and triangular blue fret corners, set within three Chinese-tradition borders — T-fret, swastika fret, and rainbow striped clouds — in the elongated format characteristic of Khotan production.
Khotan is a historic oasis city on the southern Silk Road, today part of China’s Xinjiang region but historically the cultural and weaving heart of East Turkestan.
Hand-knotted wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique — both decorative and collectible.
