A late 19th-century English needlepoint carpet from around 1890, measuring approximately 183.1 × 213.5 cm (about 6’0″ × 7’0″). The composition is an ivory-ground design of red rose vines — a romantic Victorian-era floral vocabulary characteristic of English needlepoint production for fashionable interiors of the period.
Needlepoint carpets are made by stitching wool yarn through an open-weave canvas backing, producing a flat, embroidery-like surface very different from the looped pile of knotted carpets.
Hand-stitched wool flat-weave. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique.
