Khotan is a historic oasis city on the southern Silk Road in today’s Xinjiang region of China — historically the cultural and weaving heart of East Turkestan. Khotan-tradition carpets typically pair Chinese motif vocabularies (medallions, fret borders, cloud bands) with Central Asian tribal color and proportion. Pieces in this style are continuously collected for their distinctive cross-cultural design language.
