A rare 18th-century Bessarabian flat-weave carpet from around 1750, measuring approximately 213.4 × 335.4 cm (about 7’0″ × 11’0″). The composition centers on a medallion design over a deep black field, framed by an ivory border — an exceptional color register for a piece of this rare 18th-century date.
Bessarabia is the historical name for a region between the Prut and Dniester rivers — historically governed under the Russian Empire, today divided across Moldova and Ukraine. Bessarabian flat-weaves of the 18th century are exceptionally rare on the antique market.
