Antique American Allover Geometric Multicolor Jewel Tones 1930s Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 63 x 77 inches (5’3″ x 6’5″). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
Its distinct geometric composition immediately evokes the intricate piecing of classic American quilting patterns.
The design utilizes a complex grid structure, presenting a repeating star or pinwheel motif across the entire field, framed by deep indigo sashing. This dense, non-medallion structure classifies it among the finest examples of allover design. The palette is rich yet softly aged, featuring blocks of faded pink, pale blue, and ochre, creating a sophisticated display of multicolor jewel tones.
The visual impact of the repeating star motif offers a dynamic sense of movement and texture. This piece stands as a compelling artifact of American decorative history.
Condition: Good.
