Antique American 1920s Square Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 68 x 72 inches (5’8″ x 6′). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor.
The design utilizes a dense, repetitive diamond lattice, giving the impression of a meticulously pieced quilt. Each diamond frame alternates between stylized floral bouquets—often containing roses and smaller filler flowers—and complex geometric segments composed of chevrons and angular lines. This dense coverage creates a truly captivating visual field, characteristic of allover design that fill the entire surface without relying on a central medallion.
A sophisticated, yet playful, palette defines this piece. While the colors are softly faded due to nearly a century of life, the overall effect remains vibrant, positioning this piece among desirable multicolor jewel tone textiles that offer depth and versatility in interior design.
Condition: Good.
