Vintage Aubusson in soft, faded pastels. A small oval bouquet of pink roses floats on an open cream field, surrounded by rose sprays and framed by taupe and gold scrollwork with ribbon bows and corner cartouches. A dusty rose border finishes the rug. Quiet, romantic colour.
Hand woven in China, circa 1980. Hand woven in the Aubusson tapestry technique: a flat weave made entirely by hand, colour by colour, the same way carpets were woven in Aubusson, France in the 18th century. 100% wool, with no pile and no latex. Carpets from this workshop carry a label stating they use more than sixty shades of wool and take a team of designers and weavers over a year to complete.
Brand new and never used, yet vintage: it was woven decades ago and is no longer in production. Rare and one of a kind. Hand woven Aubussons of this size and detail are seldom offered. We have exactly one, and when it sells it cannot be reordered.
Room size 8′ x 10′ (actual size 8′ x 10′). Flat and thin, so doors clear it and chairs slide easily, which makes it a natural choice under a dining table, in a bedroom or in a formal living room. Light enough to hang as a tapestry.
Bound and finished by hand. Use a rug pad to keep it in place, vacuum without a beater bar, and have it professionally cleaned. Ships rolled from our Deer Park, New York warehouse.
