A mid-19th-century Persian Farahan carpet from around 1850, measuring approximately 213.6 × 487.9 cm (about 7’0″ × 16’0″). The composition pairs an ivory field with a dark blue border — a particularly luminous color register for a Farahan piece of this scale and age.
Farahan is a region in west-central Persia (now Iran), historically associated with hand-knotted village wool carpets recognized for their refined herati and small-scale floral vocabularies and durable hand-spun wool yarns. Mid-19th-century Farahans are now well over 170 years old.
