A monumental early 20th-century Indian carpet from around 1920, measuring approximately 335.3 × 670.7 cm (about 11’0″ × 22’0″). The composition centers on the herati design — a small-scale repeating diamond, fish, and rosette motif of Persian origin — over a yellow field with a yellow border, in a long gallery-format proportion suited to formal long living rooms, hallways, and the largest residential rooms.
Indian carpet weaving in the late 19th and early 20th centuries combined Persian and classical Mughal vocabularies for the European and American export market.
