A 19th-century antique Persian Bijar carpet from the 1880s, The piece measures approximately 7’8″ × 12’4″ (per the seller listing), a comfortable formal-room proportion well suited to dining rooms, libraries, and traditional living rooms.
The composition centers on a red-toned medallion design — a classic Bijar layout. Bijar refers to a town in the Kurdish region of northwestern Persia (now Iran), historically known for producing some of the most densely woven, structurally heavy wool carpets in the Persian tradition. Bijar rugs are sometimes referred to as the “iron carpets of Persia” because of their characteristic weight and durability, the result of a tightly compressed pile and double-weft foundation.
Hand-woven wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique.
