A striking antique red Chinese Art Deco, hand-knotted in wool in China around 1920. This one-of-a-kind piece showcases a modern / modernist design across a red palette, and measures 7’0″ x 9’0″.

Chinese Art Deco rugs emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, when weavers in Tianjin – most famously in the workshops associated with Walter Nichols – paired traditional Chinese craft with the bold, asymmetrical, modern aesthetic of the Art Deco movement. The result is a distinctive look: spacious fields, oversized blossoms and a fresh, painterly use of color.

At a true room size it will anchor a living or dining room, framing a seating group or sitting comfortably under a dining table. Its reds bring warmth and depth, classic with dark woods and leather. Hand-knotted from durable wool, it is made to be lived with and handed down.
