Ersari - Beshir Rugs

The Ersari are one of the major Turkoman tribes, and their weavings—specifically the Beshir variants from the Amu Darya river valley—are among the most artistically diverse in the Central Asian tradition. Measured on the 14 Ersari Beshir pieces we hold, the drawing is geometric on 12 and an allover repeat on 10, so in our stock they are as geometric as any Turkoman group. What sets them apart is scale and colour. This is the large end of the family, with a median area of 36.8 square feet against 10.5 for our Tekke, and coral or salmon appears on 5 of the 14, nearly four times its share across our antiques.

Known for their soft, lustrous wool and a palette that sets coral and salmon beside the traditional reds, these rugs read warmer and larger than the Tekke or Yomud weaves. An antique Ersari Beshir is a collector’s favorite because it bridges the gap between nomadic tribalism and sophisticated city-inspired artistry. They are perfect for adding a layer of ethnographic soul and warm, saturated color to a library or a globally-inspired living room.

Ersari Beshir rugs are celebrated for their distinctive deep, lustrous reds and sophisticated large-scale geometric designs, embodying the rich weaving heritage of Central Asia. These exceptional pieces showcase traditional, authentic tribal designs and motifs that speak to their nomadic roots; discover more about the historical significance of rugs of Central Asia.
