Medallion Rugs
The Central Medallion is perhaps the most iconic and recognizable layout in the history of rug weaving, acting as a “sun” around which the rest of the design orbits. This format typically features a grand, intricate centerpiece—often a lobed star, a floral rosette, or a geometric shield—surrounded by a contrasting field and corner “spandrels.” This architectural arrangement is a hallmark of the classic Tabriz, Sarouk, and Mashad traditions, often intended to mimic the celestial vault or the reflection of a garden pool.
A medallion rug creates a powerful sense of symmetry and focus, serving as a formal anchor for a room. It is a design of high drama and balance, perfect for centering a grand entry, a seating arrangement, or any space that demands a clear sense of order and prestige.
Central Medallion Rugs showcase a time-honored design where an elaborate motif forms the central focal point, radiating symmetry and grandeur across the entire field. This defining structure creates unparalleled visual balance, making the rug the sophisticated anchor of any space.
