A monumental early 20th-century Austrian Savonnerie carpet from around 1930, measuring approximately 579.4 × 609.8 cm (about 19’0″ × 20’0″). The composition is built on a rose ground with a rose-pink border in a Savonnerie-tradition pile-knotted construction — a particularly large and decorative example of Austrian Savonnerie production.
Austrian Savonnerie production drew on the broader French Savonnerie tradition (pile-knotted wool on a horizontal loom) and was particularly associated with formal interiors in Vienna and the wider Austro-Hungarian aristocratic market.
Hand-knotted wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique.
