Soumak Rugs
Soumak refers to a specific “flat-weave” technique that is thicker and stronger than a standard Kilim. It involves wrapping the weft threads around the warp to create a textured, herringbone-like surface with “shaggy” loose threads on the back (which provide extra cushioning).
Mostly originating from the Caucasus, Soumak rugs feature incredibly detailed geometric patterns and tribal medallions. They offer the sleekness of a flat-weave with the durability of a pile rug, making them perfect for dining rooms.
