Dhurries

Dhurries are traditional flat-woven rugs from India. Unlike pile rugs, they are woven without knots, which gives them a smooth, lightweight surface that is easy to clean and maintain, and because there is no pile many pieces can be laid with either face up.

Antique dhurries are crafted most often from cotton, and sometimes from wool. Their strongest design signature is the stripe, joined by geometric motifs, and the palette runs to blue and ivory, while red, pink and multicolored jewel tones are the exception rather than the rule. Historically dhurries served as floor coverings and, in small sizes, as bedding underlays and mats, but most of the antique dhurries we stock are room size or larger, suited to both traditional and modern interiors.
