Bergama Rugs
Bergama rugs originate from the Bergama region of Western Anatolia, Turkey, and are celebrated for preserving some of the oldest and most authentic Turkish village weaving traditions. These highly collectible antique carpets are defined by their incredibly lustrous, high-quality local wool, deep and saturated color palettes (often featuring rich reds, blues, and earth tones), and bold, blocky geometric motifs, sometimes featuring large central medallions. Utilizing the symmetric Ghiordes knot, Bergama weavers create durable, thick pile structures that share the distinct tribal authenticity often seen in neighboring Caucasian carpets. As essential pieces in the broader category of Oriental rugs, authentic Bergama textiles represent a rare investment in foundational Anatolian art.
