On-Site Rug Stain Removal

On-site stain removal means a Rugs On Net rug specialist treats a spill or stain on your rug at your home or office, so the rug does not have to leave the room. It is the fastest way to deal with wine, coffee, pet accidents and other spills before they set into the wool. Call (212) 683-0167 or email [email protected] with a photograph of the stain and your address, and we will confirm when we can come.

What should I do right after a spill?

Blot, do not rub. Press a clean white cloth onto the spill to lift as much liquid as you can, working from the outside in. Do not use household carpet cleaners, bleach or hot water on a hand-knotted rug: they can set the stain, strip the natural dyes or make the colors run. Then contact us. The sooner a stain is treated, the better the result.

Which stains can be treated on site?

  • Fresh spills: wine, coffee, tea, juice and food.
  • Pet accidents and the odor that follows them.
  • Small, localized marks and soiling.

Some problems need the studio rather than the living room: large or old stains, color run (dye bleeding), water damage that has reached the foundation, and moth damage. In those cases we will tell you so and arrange a full professional rug cleaning, repair or moth treatment instead.

How does an on-site visit work?

  1. Send a photograph of the stain, the size of the rug and your address.
  2. We confirm whether the stain can be treated on site, give you a quote, and agree a time.
  3. Our specialist tests the dyes first, then treats the stain by hand with methods suited to wool and silk.
  4. If the stain needs more than an on-site treatment, we explain the options before doing anything further.

On-site stain removal FAQ

Can a red wine stain come out of a wool rug?

Often yes, especially when it is treated quickly. Blot the spill straight away, avoid household cleaners, and contact us with a photograph so a specialist can treat it before it sets.

Is on-site treatment safe for antique rugs?

Yes, when it is done by a rug specialist. We test the dyes before treating anything and use methods suited to natural wool and silk. If a stain is not safe to treat on site, we recommend studio cleaning instead.

How much does on-site stain removal cost?

Each visit is quoted individually, based on the stain, the rug and your location. Send a photograph and your address for a quote.

What should I not use on a stained rug?

Avoid bleach, household carpet cleaners, hot water and vigorous rubbing. They can set the stain, damage the wool or make the dyes run.

Do pet accidents need special treatment?

Yes. Urine can damage the foundation and leave odor even after the surface looks clean. Small, fresh accidents can often be treated on site; older or repeated ones usually need a full studio cleaning.
