Verneh Rugs
Verneh rugs are a specific type of Caucasian flat-weave (related to Soumaks and Kilims) known for their distinctive “brocaded” technique. They are often woven in two joined panels and frequently feature large-scale, highly stylized animal motifs—especially camels and birds—rendered in a bold, graphic “S” shape.
These tribal Verneh rugs are among the most decorative and “primitive” of the flat-weaves, prized for their rich symbolic language and rustic, artistic temperament.
Verneh rugs are small-scale tribal weavings traditionally created for functional use in nomadic households — from saddle bags to storage panels. Despite their modest size, Verneh pieces boast striking, tightly executed designs often built around dazzling geometric motifs, diamond lattices, and harmonized color fields. Their compact format and expressive patterns make Verneh weavings perfect as accent pieces, wall hangings, or layered elements in layered, textured interiors.
