Bidjov Rugs
Bidjov rugs are a unique and historic type of Caucasian tribal carpet that emerged in the 19th century from the Bidjov area — a village near the Kuba and Shirvan weaving regions of the eastern Caucasus. These hand-knotted rugs are prized for their bold geometric motifs, often arranged in vertical sequences of stylized palmettes, sunbursts, or abstract tribal designs set against rich, deep color grounds such as midnight blue or sable tones.
Woven on an all-wool foundation with lively accents of red, green, ivory, and yellow, Bidjov pieces blend Shirvan design language with distinctly regional character, reflecting the artistic sensibilities of Caucasian village weavers. While relatively rare in fine condition, authentic Bidjov rugs are cherished by collectors and enthusiasts for their expressive patterns, harmonious color interplay, and cultural resonance as classic examples of Caucasian weaving traditions.
