How are hand-loomed rugs made, and how do they differ from hand-knotted?

On a hand-operated loom, yarns are interlaced or wrapped to build pile/texture faster than knot-by-knot. Some hand-loomed pieces add latex or extra backings; true hand-knotted has visible knots and no glue layer.
