Vintage Aubusson Flat Weave Rug, Green and Gold Empire Medallion, 9' x 12'

Vintage Aubusson in the grand Empire style. A great round medallion with a sunburst rosette at its centre is ringed by interlaced flower garlands on ivory. Dark green corners carry gold scrolling acanthus, the side panels hold palmettes and lozenges, and gold borders of small white flowers and leaf chains frame the whole carpet. A formal, architectural design in the manner of the French Savonnerie carpets.Hand woven in China, circa 1980. Hand woven in the Aubusson tapestry technique: a flat weave made entirely by hand, colour by colour, the same way carpets were woven in Aubusson, France in the 18th century. 100% wool, with no pile and no latex.
