Antique Ningxia Room Size Wool Ivory Rug

Antique Ningxia Room Size Wool Ivory Rug, Circa Date: 1850s. This exceptional example of 19th-century Chinese weaving originates from the Ningxia region, characterized by its elegant, uncluttered aesthetic. It represents a classic period for antique rugs from this area, emphasizing purity of design over dense ornamentation. The expansive field is rendered in a sophisticated palette of soft ivory and beige tones, allowing the subtle, ghosted scrolling motifs to emerge from the background. This restrained use of color highlights the texture of the hand-spun wool and the natural patina achieved over centuries of use. A series of finely drawn, circular medallions, executed in contrasting deep indigo and sky blue, are symmetrically distributed across the field.
