Antique Peking Chinese Medallion Yellow 1920s Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional Chinese Peking rug is a vibrant example of the Republican era's refined aesthetic, characterized by its striking Imperial Yellow field. The clarity of the design and the luxurious wool quality distinguish it among fine antique rugs of the period. The brilliant, saturated saffron field is a commanding feature, utilizing a hue historically reserved for the Imperial court. This masterful use of color establishes the piece as a significant example within the category of yellow color rugs. The central medallion is composed of densely woven floral sprays in soft blues and peaches, providing a delicate counterpoint to the bold ground color. A dramatic contrast is achieved by the wide, indigo-dyed main border, which frames the luminous field.
