Vintage Aubusson with an olive green field covered in a lattice of pale links, pink stars and red diamonds. A bouquet of roses anchors the centre and four more sit in the corners. The border is a rich garland of golden vine leaves, grapes and wheat, inside a gold band and an olive edge. Warm, classic French colouring in the Napoleon III taste.Hand woven in China, circa 1980. Hand woven in the Aubusson tapestry technique: a flat weave made entirely by hand, colour by colour, the same way carpets were woven in Aubusson, France in the 18th century. 100% wool, with no pile and no latex. Carpets from this workshop carry a label stating they use more than sixty shades of wool and take a team of designers and weavers over a year to complete.Brand new and never used, yet vintage: it was woven decades ago and is no longer in production. Rare and one of a kind.
