Vintage Aubusson in the Neoclassical style. A round compass medallion of cream and black panels sits on a camel field of fine scrolling vines, framed by layered borders of black, blue and burgundy panels with Greek key corners, roundels and floral cartouches. Architectural, rich and dramatic.Hand woven in China, circa 1980. Hand woven in the Aubusson tapestry technique: a flat weave made entirely by hand, colour by colour, the same way carpets were woven in Aubusson, France in the 18th century. 100% wool, with no pile and no latex. Carpets from this workshop carry a label stating they use more than sixty shades of wool and take a team of designers and weavers over a year to complete.Brand new and never used, yet vintage: it was woven decades ago and is no longer in production.
