Vintage Aubusson with a striped centre panel. Bands of green fern fronds and rust flowering vines alternate with pale blue and cream stripes, set in a wide lilac grey border of scrolling vines and leaves with a small scroll guard. Light, airy colour and an unusual design.Hand woven in China, circa 1980. Hand woven in the Aubusson tapestry technique: a flat weave made entirely by hand, colour by colour, the same way carpets were woven in Aubusson, France in the 18th century. 100% wool, with no pile and no latex. Carpets from this workshop carry a label stating they use more than sixty shades of wool and take a team of designers and weavers over a year to complete.Brand new and never used, yet vintage: it was woven decades ago and is no longer in production.
