Vintage Aubusson drawn like a wall of framed botanical prints. Eleven panels of ferns and herbs, each in a rust scrollwork frame and linked by ribbons and bows, are set on a cream ground sprinkled with tiny pale blue sprigs. A wide border of white calla lilies and green leaves runs all the way around, finished with a dark brown edge.Hand woven in China, circa 1980. Hand woven in the Aubusson tapestry technique: a flat weave made entirely by hand, colour by colour, the same way carpets were woven in Aubusson, France in the 18th century. 100% wool, with no pile and no latex. Carpets from this workshop carry a label stating they use more than sixty shades of wool and take a team of designers and weavers over a year to complete.Brand new and never used, yet vintage: it was woven decades ago and is no longer in production. Rare and one of a kind.
