Vintage Aubusson in a bold baroque design. Rust, gold and cream strapwork and acanthus scrolls cover a deep chocolate brown ground around a central quatrefoil medallion. Lattice panels with small florets fill the cartouches, and crowns and heraldic lions appear in the crests at the sides and corners. Strong, warm colour with a great deal of fine drawing.Hand woven in China, circa 1980. Hand woven in the Aubusson tapestry technique: a flat weave made entirely by hand, colour by colour, the same way carpets were woven in Aubusson, France in the 18th century. 100% wool, with no pile and no latex. Carpets from this workshop carry a label stating they use more than sixty shades of wool and take a team of designers and weavers over a year to complete.Brand new and never used, yet vintage: it was woven decades ago and is no longer in production. Rare and one of a kind.
