Tribal Geometric Antique Khotan Room Size Wool Pile East Turkestan Rug

Antique Khotan Room Size Wool Brown Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of East Turkestan weaving exhibits the characteristic blend of nomadic and Chinese influences typical of the region. Its substantial dimensions classify it as a room size piece, ideal for anchoring a large living space or formal dining area with historical gravitas. The palette is rich and mature, dominated by deep terracotta and aubergine hues that transition into a sophisticated field of brown earth tone color. The natural dyes have mellowed beautifully over the century, lending the hand-spun wool pile a soft, lustrous sheen that speaks directly to its quality and age. Khotan rugs are renowned for their powerful, large-scale designs. This piece features a striking stepped central medallion framed by intricate minor motifs within the field and border.
