Antique Caucasian Caucasus Blue 1890s Square Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional piece is a vibrant example of nomadic artistry, representing the finest traditions of antique rugs from the Caucasus region. Its dense knotting and powerful use of natural dyes speak to its enduring quality and historical significance, capturing the rugged, authentic spirit of late 19th-century weaving. The primary field is saturated with a rich, midnight indigo, providing a dramatic contrast for the bold, stepped motifs rendered in rust red and cream. This deep shade of blue is highly prized in tribal weavings, anchoring the composition and making it a superb example among blue color rugs that retain their original, powerful character. A powerful central diamond medallion, rendered in saturated terracotta and outlined with complex, serrated edges, dominates the composition.
