Antique Caucasian - Kuba Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional example of 19th-century weaving represents the finest traditions of antique rugs from the Caucasus region, showcasing the distinctive geometric precision for which Kuba workshops are renowned. The field is dominated by a powerful, repeating pattern of stylized stellar medallions set against a deep indigo ground, creating a mesmerizing, classic Caucasian allover rugs design that minimizes the negative space. The complexity of the drawing suggests the work of a master weaver operating within the established village tradition. The palette is executed in rich, saturated natural dyes, featuring striking contrasts of madder red and ivory against the dark field, punctuated by subtle accents of goldenrod and the rare, soft blue color rugs found in the secondary motifs.
