Antique Navajo American Gray 1920s Gray Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This striking example of early 20th-century American weaving represents the powerful geometric tradition of the Navajo people. The piece is characterized by its bold, stepped motifs and a sophisticated, limited palette, making it a highly desirable example among antique rugs. The restrained use of natural dyes creates a monochromatic harmony, featuring shades of charcoal, slate, and undyed cream wool. This specific coloration elevates the piece beyond typical Southwestern textiles, offering a neutral yet impactful foundation that integrates seamlessly into contemporary interiors seeking gray color rugs. The composition employs a complex arrangement of interlocking squares and serrated diamonds, creating a dynamic, almost kinetic visual effect.
