Antique Oversized Coral Bijar Persian Geometric Knotted Rug, Country of Origin: Iran Persia, Circa Date: 1850s. This exceptional piece exemplifies the robust construction and dense knotting characteristic of the bijar tradition. Known historically as the "Iron Rugs of Persia," these textiles were woven with a heavy, compressed structure designed for longevity, ensuring that this example retains remarkable integrity nearly two centuries after its creation. The field features a sophisticated all-over geometric pattern, likely a variation of the Herati motif, rendered in a striking palette dominated by warm, oxidized coral and rich, deep indigo. This masterful use of color and complex patterning is a hallmark of high-quality Persian weaving from the mid-19th century, reflecting the technical skill of the Kurdish weavers in the Bijar region.
