Antique Chinese - Ningxia Yellow 1750s Rug, Country of Origin: China, Circa Date: 1750s. This exceptional example of 18th-century Chinese weaving belongs to the esteemed ningxia tradition, characterized by its open field design and sophisticated use of symbolic motifs. The central medallion, depicting stylized mythical beasts, is rendered against the luminous yellow ground. The field is dominated by a rare, saturated yellow, providing a striking contrast to the border. Scattered throughout the expansive field are delicate elements of fauna and flora, accented by a subtle, aged yellow tone. The overall square size format suggests it was intended for a grand interior, perhaps functioning as a true room size centerpiece. A complex border system frames the composition, featuring multiple guard bands including a striking Greek key pattern.
