Antique American 1920s Multicolor Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 70 x 90 inches (5'10" x 7'6"). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor. The defining feature is the dramatic contrast between the vibrant yellow face and the cool turquoise reverse. The rich, saturated hues classify this piece as a prime example of multicolor jewel-tone textiles. Although the primary colors are bold, the overall effect is softened by the intricate, densely stitched surface texture. The design employs an allover structure, where complex floral medallions and swirling vine motifs are integrated seamlessly into a background of geometric cross-hatching.
