Antique Chinese - Art Deco Purple 1920s Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of early 20th-century weaving represents the pinnacle of the Chinese Art Deco style. Characterized by its dramatic use of color and simplified natural forms, this piece stands out among antique rugs from the era, merging traditional Chinese motifs with modern Western sensibilities. The saturated central field is rendered in a mesmerizing purple hue, creating a powerful visual anchor. This bold choice of color, framed by a softer purple outer border, exemplifies the daring palettes favored during the Jazz Age. Such vibrant purple color rugs were highly sought after for their ability to transform minimalist interiors. The design is defined by elegant, sprawling vines and blossoms that cascade dramatically across the field.
