Knotted Wool Rectangle Blue 1920s Antique Room Size Chinese - Peking Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving represents the height of the Peking style. Its substantial dimensions classify it as a true room size piece, ideal for anchoring a grand interior space with historical gravitas. The field is dominated by a mesmerizing shade of deep indigo, a classic characteristic of the period's finest dyes, offering a sophisticated foundation. The strategic use of the blue color palette provides a dramatic contrast to the soft apricot, cream, and pale green tones used in the scattered avian motifs. The design eschews the dense patterning of Western carpets, favoring an open, ethereal composition featuring stylized mythical fowl that appear to float across the field.
