Antique Bijar Oversized Room Size Wool Blue Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional example of 19th-century Iranian / Persian artistry showcases the robust construction and dense knotting characteristic of the region. Its substantial size makes it a commanding centerpiece suitable for grand interiors, reflecting the high standards of weaving from the Kurdish town of Bijar. The field is dominated by a deep indigo or midnight blue color, providing a dramatic contrast to the profusely detailed, all-over Herati pattern rendered primarily in rich coral and madder red tones. This oversized room size format allows the intricate vine work and complex floral sprays to unfold across the floor plane with exceptional clarity and scale, a hallmark of pieces intended for affluent households.
