Antique American Multicolor Square 1920s Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 62 x 72 inches (5'2" x 6'). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor. The composition features a highly detailed, repeating floral motif reminiscent of chintz fabric or traditional quilting patterns, giving the square quilt its distinctive character. The dense, finely rendered allover design ensures visual interest across the entire surface, avoiding the centralized medallion structure typical of many contemporaneous designs. The palette is a sophisticated blend of earth tones and rich accents, presenting a subtle multicolor jewel tone effect against the light field.
